WILLAMATION

You should know by now that my favorite holiday is Halloween. More than Christmas. Too many though, Halloween is pointless because they don't think it celebrates anything. But it does (even though it is not important). It is believed to have been created from Celtic origin. The Celtics held their new year November 1st, marking the end of the summer and warmth and the start of the cold, harsh winter. They also celebrated the night before as being the start of many deaths to come (due to the freezing temperatures and the lack of agriculture) but it was more celebrated that the ghosts of their ancestors visited for the night (much like Hispanic Day of the dead). This celebration was called Samhain. Later brought to the US by immigrants, it was adapted into what is our modern day Halloween. But that is where the date comes from. Many other traditions like trick-or-treating or carving jack o' Lanterns are from other culture’s traditions that were blended together into the same date.

For me, Halloween as almost always been my favorite holiday (it was occasionally tied with Christmas when I was younger). I love the fact that in society today, we can throw grotesque mutilated decaying rubber humans around are yard and not be criticized. I also love just running around at night with friends dressed like freaks. Or how every channel on TV is playing horror movies. One thing that I don't like about Halloween are the haunted houses! I will never go in one of those things. Were I live, the companies will go all out and hire midget-amputees to dress crawl around the floor and what not. We have several of the nation's scariest haunted houses, which really doesn't make me want to go even more. I don't mind most scary movies because I know they are just movies, but when I see these things actually walking around in real life, I lose it! If I was to go through one of those, I would want to be sedated and wheeled through on a hospital bed! If I was to go through one of those consciously, I would need a light saber and a mini gun! (however I would settle for a machete and a paintball gun)Other than that, Halloween is awesome and I can't wait this year!
