I have challenged myself to watch almost ever famous/well known zombie movie out (which I have completed). I couldn’t help but to consider the probability and survival rate of humanity and what I would do, if faced with this.
First off, there is the zombie. How does it become one? I have boiled it down to 3 types. 1. Radiation. These are the least of our worries because radiation can’t bring people back from the dead. 2. Magic. Probably less realistic but more of a challenge. Magic zombies are held together by some other force meaning destroying the brain (which is the solution in most cases) might not work. These zombies are most famous from the Evil Dead series, Dead Snow, and Call of duty: Nazi Zombies. The third and most realistic is the disease. Famous in most zombie movies (not as common in George A. Romero movies) but these I feel like would be the biggest threat to humanity. If the disease is saliva/blood born, then we have a standing chance. But if it is air born then we might fall quicker than most think. But what will be the REAL indicator of our survival rate will be the incubation period. A common scare with modern day diseases is how quickly someone will succumb to the symptoms of the disease and how soon they can pass it to others. If it takes around 2 hours or less to turn the person into a full blown zombie, than it is less likely to spread to other countries.
If a zombie virus does break out and you become a survivor, consider capturing a zombie and leave it in a closed space without food. if it ever starves to death and dies, there is hope for humanity.
If I was in a zombie apocalypse and I find myself to be a survivor, I would try and make it to a boat. For a while, a friend of mine tried to convince me that a mountain would be the safest place but then I showed him the show Walking Dead and he quickly realized a mountain is only safe for so long. A boat on the other hand is away from zombies. You have access to fish, and it is essential to have a water purifier on board as well. the two best places to be in a boat are either the ocean, or the Mississippi river. You can move from shore to shore, scavenging cities and towns looking for food/survivors.
When I’m bored I think about these kinds of things all the time. Whether it happens or not, I am fascinated by the idea of zombies. What do you think? Leave a comment telling me what you would do in a zombie apocalypse!
