Friday night, my school was playing another school at a soccer game. I wasn’t sure how to get to the place they were playing so I had my Dad drive with me to the place and he left. After the game (which we sadly lost) my friends and I were going to meet at an ice skating rink in the city. I got in my car and drove around the tiny town were the game was for a while trying to figure out how to get back on the highway. Eventually I found it but I was going the wrong way and didn’t realize it until I was far down the road. I pulled off at the nearest exit and got back on the highway going the right way this time! I drove to the down-town area where the ice rink was but I had never really payed attention to were it was so I spent a half hour driving around trying to find it. I would ask for directions but it was 9 o’clockish and most of the people I passed looked pretty sketchy. Eventually I found it! I skated for a while then headed home. On my way home I noticed the car was low on gas. I thought I could make it home with the amount of gas I had (mostly because I was broke). On the highway my car started to sputter and the power-steering stopped working and I realized I was completely out of gas. I coasted off the highway into an intersection in a bad part of town. I called my parents and then sat for a while. Several people came by to see if I was ok. One guy (who was trust worthy looking) helped me push my car out of the intersection and into a parking lot where he told me I should turn off my lights, lock my door, and tuck my head down for safety sake. I did so and I sat for around an hour. As I sat, 2 white unmarked rusty delivery trucks sped into a warehouse across the street from me. Two guys walked out and pulled the door shut behind the trucks. I really started to question my safety seeing is I was wearing a Ralph Lauren Polo jacket and I was mostly defenseless in the ghetto at 12 o’clock at night. A guy in a beat up minivan labeled “Mick’s auto repair” drove up to me and said he heard that some kid had a broken down car and if I needed any help. I said no but I really started getting nervous because I was afraid that word had got out that I was stranded there. My parents also had a hard time finding me but after 20 minutes on the phone with them they pulled up and gave me gas and we drove out of there as fast as we could. Moral of the story MAKE SURE YOU HAVE GAS!
